The first session for Lee Perry of the Wailers and the Upsetters were the session for “My Cup”. Then Aston recorded “Don´t Move” for Keith Hudson. BROOKS, BABA

Artist info: Oswald Baba Brooks started his musical career as a trumpet player with the Eric Dean Orchestra in Jamaica in the 1950’s playing mostly Folk, Afro and Jazz at clubs, big hotels and sometimes on local radio. Then he played with the band of Byron Lee. In 1963 he had three hits in the Jamaican charts, “Musical Communion”, “Bank To Bank” and his version of “Watermelon Man”. Later he played with the Skatalites and others. Duke Reid produced his “Teenage Ska”. He had a habit of using a voice over intro calling out the name of the tune as on “Seven Guns Alive”, “Girls Town Ska”, “Guns Fever” and “One Eyed Giant”. On “Alcatraz” Count Machuki spoke the lyrics in the DJ style. King Edwards produced his “Shank I Sheck”. One of his best instrumentals was “First Session” produced by Sonja Pottinger and issued on her GayFeet label in 1966. He only had one other chart hit with “This is Thunder” in 1966. Most of his instrumentals were written by himself or in partnership with fellow musicians such as Don Drummond. He would appear not to have had any more releases after 1969.
