CHAPTER 6:
LEE PERRY PRODUCTIONS

How to list all the the Lee Perry tracks and mixes in an order understandable? I agree that this is no simple job to do and this is only a try:

1. are the Soul Rebel album tracks of 1970.

2. are further tracks of 1970.

3. are the Soul Revolution II album tracks of 1971.

4. are the Upsetter Riddim Revolution album tracks, the versions of the Soul Revolution II album.

5. are further tracks of 1971 and its versions and alternates.

6. are later tracks, mixes and remixes.

7. are footnotes, tracks that I dont consider as Wailers tracks, although some think they should be inside the catalogue. Some of those tracks feature some Wailers at harmonies.

So far a track appears later again and the only difference is a longer or shorter running time, I do not treat this one as a „new thing“ but have added a note to the songs first appearance.

Lee Perry productions appear at a couple of different labels.

Among the different Jamaican Upsetter label designs, the one with a spiral in the background seems to be first, followed by the one with blank background and „Upsetter“ and „Records“ written. The third seems to be the one with the word „Upsetter“ only.

UK Upsetter originals have a label, right half in red and writing in blue, while UK Trojan reissues appear with a label, right half in orange and writing in purple or in blue, sometimes witha recent release date of the reissue.

Power Label is now thought as a Wailers or Wailers / Perry stamp.

Justice League is now thought as a label used for reissues.

1970: SOUL REBELS ALBUM

Recorded at Randys & Dynamics.

This album was released without permission rights by Lee Perry in UK as it was the case with the album „African Herbsman“ that is the UK issue of „Soul Revolution II“ with some songs changed.

The longplay album „Soul Rebel“ was first released in UK on Trojan TBL 126, then released with facsimile cover in JA on Upsetter (Matrix: TBL 126), re-released again in facsimile cover in UK in 1988 on Receiver Records and also appear on Rough Gang COLP 001. Many other represses are missing „My Sympathy“.
