I compared both and I dont find any difference in the vocals or in the music. The track on „More Axe is the same as the track on „Lonesome Feeling“ with the last one having a better sound.

Keep On Skanking

Recorded a day before christmas 1974 at Black Ark. The Trojan sleeve has a wrong info about a recording date in 1973 and at Dynamics.

Produced by Lee Perry.

Written by Bob Marley. Some lines are written by Chris Lane.

Intro by Lee Perry, lead vocals by Bob Marley.

This variation is based on the rhythm first used in 1974 for three singles by Leo Graham at Upsetter „Black Candle“, its Version called „Bad Lamp“, „Doktor Demand“, its Version called „Black Bat“ and „Big Tongue Buster“, its Version called „Bus-A-Dub“, all released at: Lee Perry & Friends Public Jestering, UK Attack, 1990, Longplay (Reissue)

Ian McCann tells, thate there is an unreleased second cut of this song with the vocals and bass and drums, a much sparer mix.

Previously unreleased. Early releases of 1983, 1985, 1995 and 1996 are taken from an acetate that includes this track and a unreleased dub cut with Chris Lane on bongos. For the JAD release of 1998 the original session tape could be used.

First released on UK album: Creation Rockers, Trojan 183. Credited here to The Upsetters.

Note: So far RS mentions, Trojan TROT 9074, 12-inch Maxi would have a longer „Keep On Skanking“, this is wrong. I can confirm, the maxi has the album track of 1983.

Turn Me Loose, Kaya (Alternate 2)

Love Light Shining (Dub-Plate)

While the original 7-inch take has Bob Marley singing these lines: „Just keep your love lights burning (3x), Let it burn (4x), Just keep them joy bells ringing (3x), let them ring (4x), just you take one step closer (3x), Come on in (4x)“ to finish with a jam, this alternate take has the harmonies singing these vocals and Bob Marley jams a second voice over the lines with completely different vocals like: „I just wanna keep my love lights burning, yeah. Ill do it anytime you want me to. And you know who Im talking to. Spread it good over yeah woman. Wow now. Yeah yeah. I keep my love lights sticking out light like a torch now. Ill stick it with storch now. I slay the wicked with fire now. Wow now. Hear what I sing. Let it ring, let it ring. Oh now – as close as I am to September, I still dont miss November. Come on woman hold me tighter. I can show you tomorrow will be brighter. Cause you no sorrow never hurts you. Not even bad minded people could stop this one. As it was in the beginning it shall be right here right here right here. Let me know what I have to say. I wanna see you live with love. I wanna see you live with love. Hot pants on. I dig my sister with a maxi and I care for the one with the high pants too. Never hurt that woman. She is a good little sister.“

1996 REGGAE REVOLUTION (Vocal & Version Sequences)

Small Axe (Vocal & Version Sequence)

This and the following 1996 sequences are no 12-inch mixes nor mixed at all but the vocal track followed by the version sequenced by a DJ switching from the channel with the vocal track to the version.

The combinations „Try Me / Version“ and „Soul Almighty / Version“ show that the longer complete tracks from the issues since 1990 were used to create these sequences. Indeed these were made 1996.

1996 THE RARITIES VOLUME 1

Shocks Of Mighty, Soul Amighty (Alternate), Shocks Almighty (Mix I)

Not to be confused with a Dave Barker song also called „Shocks Of Mighty“.

Lead vocals by Bob Marley and Lee Perry.

Virtual duet by Lee Perry and Bob Marley as Lee Perrys voice was added to the vocals of Bob Marley later.

The mixing date is unsure, maybe 1970 or 1971, one source tells late seventies, but this seems not likely to me. As Bob Marleys vocals are different, this is made from an alternate vocal recording.

Previously unreleased. The track is taken from studio tape and released after Bob Marleys death.

Portugal CD release: The Rarities Volume 1, Jamaican Gold, 1996 (3,33)

UK CD release: Roots Of A Legend 2-CD, Trojan, 1997 (3,34)

Sun Is Shining (Funkstar Club Mix)

Club house dance mix by Funkstar of the 1970 recording for Lee Perry. Featuring DJ vocals by Ranking Joe at the start. 2006 AUGUSTUS PABLO MEETS LEE PERRY & WAILERS BAND (FAKE)

Soul Rebel Dub (2006 Remix)

Melodica cut of the instrumental version of „Soul Rebel“ (1970).

Previously unreleased.

UK CD release: Augustus Pablo Meets Lee Perry & Wailers Band – Rare Dubs 1970 – 1971, Jamaican Recordings JRCD 023, 2006 (2,41)

Note: This CD release comes with a wrong artist credit featuring Augustus Pablo who is not playing at this track. In so far the musician credit given at the sleeve is another mistake. A long time collector told me he is able to identify the used versions as the versions mastered for the recent Universal release of Wailers music. Augustus Pablo died 1999 and in so far cant play over the tracks mastered just recently.

Then the album credit features a mistake as it says „1970 – 1971“. „Rainbow Country“ is recorded in 1975.

This remix is produced by Bunny Lee in 2006.

Try Me Dub (2006 Remix)

Melodica cut of the instrumental version of „Try Me“ (1970).
