CHAPTER 9:
JAD PRODUCTIONS

Produced by Arthur Jenkins, Johnny Nash and Danny Sims.
Jimmy Norman wrote a couple of these songs. He started his career as a member of the famous US American Doo-Wop band „The Coasters“.
After the financially disappointing relationship to Clement Dodd that didn´t included payment for international marketing of the Wailers music Bob Marley agreed to sign an exclusive contract with JAD that included marketing of his music in the USA. He followed the advice of the JAD people to record music that as thought to be sold well in USA. But in fact that hope wasn´t fullfilled. Only four songs were released during Bob Marley´s life time: The singles „Mellow Mood / Bend Down Low“ (1968) and „Reggae On Broadway / Oh Lord, Got To Get There“ (1972). All further songs are demos not meant to be released. Later that contract with JAD became a contract with CBS. When Bob, Peter and Bunny signed another contract with Island Ltd. in 1972 at first the situation was unsure. But the conflict was solved soon when Island and CBS agreed that CBS release Bob Marley at December 22nd 1972.
Two different sources for the following JAD tracks could be identified in detail:

1968 BOB MARLEY BRONX JAM
1. Wings Of A Dove ( I Don´t Need Your Love), 2. Stranger On The Shore, 3. One Love / True Love, 4. Splish For My Splash, 5. I´m Hurting Inside, 6. Falling In & Out Of Love, 7. Stay With Me, 8. You Think I Have No Feelings
This original tape was recorded by Jimmy Norman at Appartment 6 – H at 2119 Valentine Avenue, Bronx, New York City, N.Y. USA early in 1968 at Bob Marley first visit in New York. Also attending at this jam is Rita Marley, Dorothy Norman and Al Pyfrom. Songs 6, 7 and 8 are written by Jimmy Norman and Al Pyfrom. The whole tape runs 24 minutes. The original tape was at auction in 2002 and reached a price of 26,290.00 US Dollar. The releases of „Stranger On The Shore“, „Splish For My Splash“ and „Falling In & Out Of Love“ and „One Love True Love“ (on Fy-Ah, Fy-Ah Box), and „Wings Of A Dove“ (announced) are from this tape.

There is a picture of a original demo tape existing that has a song list without this song.
But there is another collection of demos, said to be from 1968, with this song.
So far the playing musicians are listed correct, this would be a good reason to say, that one is recorded 1972. If there is a recording of that song from 1968, this would be an acoustic demo.

FOOTNOTES:

Back Against The Wall
Don´t Draft Me
I Love Music
I´ll Come Back In A Song
Rescue Me
Shoot Up The Town
These and numerous other titles were attributed in a master catalogue printout from the mid-eighties of Danny Sims catalog. No recordings of any these titles have been surfaced. And little hope is held out that they will be discovered. They have probably all disintegrated by now. They would have been crude writers demos.
