A master tape bears the date July 6th, 1964, but unconfirmed reports claim its existance earlier that year. It seems, an earlier opinion, stated in the booklet of Songs Of Freedom, 1992, CD-Box, released on Island and in the booklet of One Love, 1991, 2-CD, released on Heartbeat about a recording of this song in December 1963 and a release around February 1964 is now understood as wrong.

It is said that 80.000 copies of this debut release of The Wailers were sold in Jamaica. It was a number one hit in Jamaica.
