THE WAILING WAILERS
This record was first released in 1966 on Studio One (label has silver writing on red background) (Matrix: WIRL LP CS 1266). Only this first pressing has all songs without overdubs. Beside the different label art and matrix also the cover art is different with a different picture of the three and Bob bowing in the middle.
Since 1970 instead of the original tracks most tracks were included with overdubs (Matrix: FCD-8081-A-FRM / FCD-8081-B-1PM).
Those overdubs are not listed in RS book. So the date is not confirmed as 1970. And the kind of overdub is unconfirmed, noted as I hear it from listening to my record. Also unconfirmed is that five to six songs are overdubbed and six to seven are not overdubbed.
In 1975 with the same matrix released in silk screen cover: one in black and white, and one in black, red and white.
Songs are: Put It On (Overdubbed), I Need You (Overdubbed), Lonesome Feeling, What’s New Pussycat, One Love, When The Well Runs Dry, The Ten Commandments Of Love, Rude Boy (Overdubbed), It Hurts To Be Alone, Love And Affection (Overdubbed), I’m Still Waiting (Overdubbed), Simmer Down (Oberdubbed)
Re-released again on Studio One (rosette label) in 1978 (Matrix: WW-1) with „Ska Jerk“ replaces „When The Well Runs Dry“.
Repressed identically with new matrix SOLP 1001, since the early 80ies with common Studio One label.
Finally released on US Studio One SOD 1001, ca. 1994, CD.
The CD release includes „Ska Jerk“ and „When The Well Runs Dry“ but don´t have „One Love“, further additions are „Guajara Ska“ and the Lee Perry productions „Duppy Conqueror“, „No Sympathy“, „Soul Rebel“, „400 Years“ (all from 1970) and „Kaya“, „Lively Up Yourself“, „Sun Is Shining“ (all from 1971).

THE BEST OF BOB MARLEY AND THE WAILERS (OVERDUBBED)
The original album, a collection of earlier Coxsone recordings without overdubs was first released on JA Studio One FCD 127 in circa 1974. The year 1974 is given in the book of Timothy White. Jeremy Collingwood writes ca. 1975 would be the release year. The first release – to my best knowledge – has a yellow cover with some red and green coloured lines in the background and a different writing style for the word „Wailers“ (Matrix: FCD 1-X).
It was repressed without overdubs ca. 1977 with a cover art very similar using the same matrix but with a silk screen cover in red on Coxsone, in red on Studio one and in yellow on Studio One.
Another silk screen cover in black is made 2001 or 2004. I have no confirmation, but I would think, this silk-screen issue has the original album without overdubs.
The album was repressed with overdubs in the early 1980ies with a cover showing three dreads and a new matrix SOL 127 on Studio One with a label with a red flag. It includes overdubs made in the early 1980s of nearly songs.
It was repressed with the same matrix later in the 1980ies with the then common Studio One label. This pressing appeared until the mid 90ies or later.
Finally this overdubbed album was released on US Studio One FCD 127, ca. 1997, CD.
Songs are: I Am Going Home (Overdubbed), Bend Down Low (Overdubbed cymbal right) (Wailers Production 1966) (2,30), Mr. Talkative (Overdubbed), Ruddie (Overdubbed), Cry To Me (Overdubbed), Wings Of A Dove (Overdubbed), More Axe (mis-titled on cover and label as „Small Axe“) (Lee Perry Production 1971) (4,07), Love Won’t Be Mine (Overdubbed), Dancing Shoes (Overdubbed), Sunday Morning (Overdubbed), He Who Feels It Knows It (Overdubbed), Straight And Narrow Way
The CD release don´t have „Ruddie“ (Jailhouse) but adds the Wailers productions „Hypocrites“ (1967), „Mellow Mood“ (1967) and the Lee Perry productions „Stand Alone“ (1971) (all three without overdubs), „African Herbsman“ (1971) overdubbed with percussion on the left side and saxophone on the right side (included twice on this CD) and „Don´t Rock My Boat“ (1971) overdubbed with saxophone bongos and sound effects on the right side.
