PRINCE BUSTER PRODUCTIONS
1967
Simpleton (The Crackers & Prince Buster All Stars)
Lead vocals by Peter Tosh. It may well have been, that The Crackers worked on a recording of this song but couldn´t succed to have the lead vocals right. So maybe Prince Buster may have suggested that Peter Tosh would sing lead on this song. In so far this is not the earliest solo project of Peter Tosh but the earliest song with lead vocals by Peter Tosh that is not a Wailers song.
Produced by Prince Buster.
Jamaican 7-inch release: Blank (Olive Blossom), 10th March 1967, a-side: Simpleton (Peter Tosh & The Crackers) (Matrix: CD 1962-1) / b-side: Warn The Nation (Willie Francis & Buster All Stars) (Matrix: CD 1956-1)
UK 7-inch release: Blue Beat BB 379, 1967, a-side: Simpleton (The Swingers. Wrong credit. In fact Peter Tosh & The Crackers) (Matrix: BB 379A) (2,50) / b-side: Warn The People (Willie Francis & Busters All Stars) (Matrix: BB 379B)
I have a recording of one of these singles on RC-II-1-1 running 2,51.
Never released on CD.
1969
Don´t You Know (Prince Buster)
Lead vocals by Prince Buster, harmonies by Bunny Wailer and Peter Tosh.
Produced by Prince Buster.
Jamaican 7-inch release: Blank (Olive Blossom), 1969, Don´t Deceive Me (Credit: None) (Matrix: WIRL PB 4001-2) / Don´t You Know (Credit: None) (Matrix: WIRL PB 4024-1)
(I don´t have this song.)
Note: RS tells, there would be a second song of Prince Buster with backing harmonies by Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer called “Don´t Deceive Me”. That song is also released on 1969 Blank Olive Blossom 7-inch with Matrix: WIRL PB 4001-2 and the b-side: “Message From A Blackman”. I have a recording of this track “Don´t Deceive me” taken from that second 7-inch and it don´t have harmonies at all.

One of the b-sides “This Is It” is said to feature Peter Tosh. RS don´t confirm this. I tend to think this is a rumour only led by the info that the a-side is festuring Peter Tosh. But as the b-side is not the version of the a-side I think this can well be only a rumour.
You Can´t Fool me Again (Straight To Rag-Jah-Rabbit Head) (1998 Remix)
The title “Rag Jah” is referring to Roger Steffens who´s reggae name is Ras Rojah”.
This version mix featuring the vocals and piano by Peter Tosh is made circa 1998.
Jamaican 7-inch release: Impact!, 1998, (Randy´s 414), a-side: You Can´t Fool Me Again (2,36) / b-side: You Can´t Fool Me Again (Straight To Rag-Jah-Rabbit Head) (2,43)
Green Duck
Instrumental.
Peter Tosh on organ, so say RS. I don´t hear any organ here, but a guitar that may have played by Peter Tosh.
Recorded at Randy´s.
Produced by Vincent Clive Chin for Randy´s.
Jamaican 7-inch release: (Blank) a-side: Sugar Sugar (The Wailers) (Matrix: DYNA Randys 1056) / b-side: Green Duck (Matrix: DYNA Randys 415) I saw this record a couple of times on ebay, said to be an original, in so far identical to the 1997 reissue. I am not sure if these matrixes are really correct.
Jamaican 7-inch release: Impact (Re-issue, ca. 1997), a-side: Sugar Sugar (The Wailers) (Matrix: DYNA Randys 1056) / b-side: Green Duck (Peter Tosh) (DYNA Randys 415) (2,46) This 7-inch is mis-labeled: the a-side has the wrong label: Java (Augustus Pablo) and the b-side has the wrong label: Version (Impact All Stars)
USA 7-inch release: Peter Tosh 7? Box Set, (colored vinyl, original labels) release 2008 by Clive Chin & Bob Brooks, 17 North Parade, Record 1, a-side: You Can’t Fool Me Again (RANDY’S PRE) (Matrix: DYNA RANDY 414-1) (1969) / b-side: Green Duck (RANDY’S PRE) (Matrix: DYNA RANDY 415-1) (1969) Never released on CD.

Produced by Lee Perry.
Most sources tells about a recording in 1970, while one source (Arise Blackman sleeve) tells about a release in 1969.
Jamaican 7-inch release: Blank (Upsetter), 1969, a-side: Righteous Ruler (Peter Tosh and U Roy) (Matrix: Upsetter 718-1) (2,36) / b-side: “Selassie” or “Non Such Version” or “Handy Cap” (The Upsetters) (”Selassie” is the basic instrumental track. “Non Such Version” and Handy Cap” are instrumentals not related to the a-side, what I can confirm as I have both these tracks elsewhere. I have a recording of the a-side runing 2,36 on “Lee Perry – Music Sweet” CDR 3.)

Hot Dog, Fat Dog (Joe Gibbs & The Love Generation)
A keyboard version of “Maga Dog” with DJ shouts by Johnny Lover. “Hot Dog” is the original title as 7-inch. “Fat Dog” is a title that was later used at Trojan CD sleeves. I think the wrong title may have its reason in the vocals of the track saying “Hot Dog Fat Dog Maga Dog …”.

Dog Teeth
Here Comes The Sun
Version (Here Comes The Sun Version)
Lion
Lion Version
These track are all produced by the Wailers and released on Tuff Gong. They were released before Peter Tosh left the Wailers and before he started his own label Intel Diplo. In consequence in my sight they are not to be treated different as tracks like “Soon Come” or “400 Years”. They should be inside the Wailers catalogue. And in so far you can find them listed in detail in Part 2, Chapter 1 – Wailers Productions, 1971.
